Back in Provo!

We have officially relocated (yet again) and are back in lovely Provo for the next 4 months. At the end of the year Stephen will be graduating and we will be taking off for whatever Heavenly Father has in store for us. It's made the move a bit more stressful since we know we'll have to pack everything up again in just a few more months but today marks two weeks in our new apartment and we are slowly transitioning back into our old routine.

Stephen is currently taking his last semester of class while also working again at the MTC, which conveniently is right across the street. Stephanie, meanwhile, has done an awesome job of arranging things around the apartment and making it more "homey," while also returning to crossing guard, something Jayden is struggling to adjust to. Before the summer Jayden liked to take naps in his car seat while mommy did her shifts but now he enjoys crawling all over and does not like being immobile a couple of times a day.

Speaking of which, Jayden has been quite adventurous since we moved in and he is constantly discovering new places to crawl to, whether that be the bathroom, the bedrooms, or around the table. The table is one of his funnest places (in addition to rearranging our DVDs) and he is constantly trying to crawl through the legs of the chairs, despite repeatedly getting stuck by the bar that connects the legs.

We greatly enjoyed our time in Texas and it is difficult for us to be so far from family again (sorry, Chase, you're just no Momo;). We're already looking forward to the holidays when we will be able to be with both families again. However, it is nice to have our own little place again and just be back to the three of us; we make a pretty awesome team :)

Here are some pics/videos from our last weeks in Texas to being here:

Texas Hoedown!

So it's been a while since our last post and there is much to report. This may take a while but we hope it's worth your time, and here we go!

As the semester was coming to an end, Stephen still had not found an internship (despite applying to everything in sight). This is when Scott (brother-in-law) mentioned that his company, an insurance company, was hiring interns if Stephen was interested. Having worked at an insurance company last summer, this seemed like a good opportunity to learn more about the insurance industry. Despite being unable to meet in person due to the distance, Stephen was contacted during finals week to be offered a position in the claims department. Yay to answered prayers!

This kicked off a frantic chain of events. We promptly turned in our 30 day notice to Wymount and began packing (again). Also, since the internship doesn't allow for vacation time, we would no longer be able to attend Angela's graduation in California. So we planned to first drive out to California, stay for a week, then backtrack south to Texas for the summer.

Moving was, again, a huge hassle and of course it took much longer than expected to move all of our things into a storage unit for the summer, minus the bare necessities we would need for life in Texas. After staying the night with family along the way, we left early Saturday morning to head for California. Up to this point we had worried that Jayden would have a rough time with the drive. However, this trip went rather well and only took slightly longer with Jayden on board, which might be mostly due to Stephen getting lost while looking for a restroom (hint: don't mess with Truckee).

California was a blast and thanks to mom and dad for making our stay so fun. A small sampling of our trip included: an exclusive guided tour of Pixar, playing at the tidepools, and a visit to the Academy of Science. Jayden seemed to enjoy it all (minus the cold of the tidepools, see picture). We wish that it could have been longer but all too soon it was time for us to move on.

We anticipated that this drive would be much harder since it would take about 3 days and required staying in hotels. Jayden seemed to realize it from the start because the first day was rough. It was cruel treatment for a boy who had just discovered his "rollies" to be locked up all day in a car seat. By the end of the day he was exhausted, and it only got worse the second day. However, he did seem to figure out that messing his diaper was a straight ticket to a break from the car seat, as shown by the sudden increase of messy diapers.

The third he seemed to have accepted the situation and instead of fussing simply looked depressed throughout the final drive. Luckily, we had planned this to be a much shorter drive. And so on May 23rd we arrived in Texas and less than a week later Stephen started his internship with Horace Mann. So far the internship is going well and Stephen has quickly transitioned into his work. He's the only intern not from a Texas school (or from Texas) and so he gets plenty of surprised looks when telling people where he's from. It's been an adjustment to be gone half the day due to Dallas traffic and to be outside the bubble but it's been a wonderful experience thus far.

We are currently staying with Heather and Scott who offered us their home for the summer. This let's us stay close to family and we love playing with Jakie and Elly, especially Stephanie as she sees them most of the day. Stephanie is enjoying being back home for the summer and loves watching Jayden become more aware of his surrounding. Jayden is now much better at playing by himself (probably because it was forced on him during our drive) and will only stop rolling once he hits the wall. His new trick is blowing spit bubbles, which he somehow discovered on his own and will mimic when you do it to him (which daddy loves). Also, he is now an expert at attracting attention, frequently receiving compliments from strangers every time he leaves the house (at the store, church, the pool, pretty much everywhere). He's very good at making new friends, some of which get a little too close for his daddy's and mommy's comfort. But such is the life of the Jay-man.

Teething and Tummy Time!

The latest in our lives:

Jayden is officially a drooly-pants (a term that mommy affectionately uses). Right before Jayden's two month appointment we noticed that he was starting to drool A LOT. Now he drools A REALLY LOT. Seriously, I have no idea how a mouth can have so much saliva, because it's constantly swimming in his mouth, running down his face, and soaking our shoulders. But he is such a cute drooly-pants! (daddy says it too). The downside is that his gums are extremely sensitive at times and his crying escalates quickly, which we wish we were better at soothing. It's tough to see your little boy in pain and not be able to do much but hold him and wait for the medicine to take effect.

This morning was a fun one because for the first time Jayden rolled over! Jayden has not been a big fan of tummy time and so still struggles to move from his tummy to his back. However, he is now a pro going from his back to his stomach. For the last few days he has been super rolly while on his back, rolling onto his side but struggling to make the final push...until 6 this morning when he went back down after eating. Steph noticed that he was on his side so we watched as he finally got over the "hump" of his arm. Hopefully he can reverse it soon, since he's now rolled onto his tummy several times and then gets frustrated that he can't get back.

Jayden has a new toy, though he's still getting used to it. We were able to get a secondhand stroller for cheap and it's been fun taking him on walks. At times he seems to enjoy it but other times he seems confused why he's going backward and why daddy hits all the bumps that he sees.

For the moment our plans for the summer are unsure as we wait to see if I'm able to land an internship. It's a bit stressful but we keep reminding each other that Heavenly Father know what's best for us and we need to have faith to follow His will.

Now for the pics!

More updates on the little guy :)

Since we have been back from our trip to Texas, there have been a few new things going on with our little man. He started to sleep through the night a couple of weeks ago (usually from 10pm to 6am), and now he has moved from his pack 'n play in our room to his crib in his room! On the first night, he woke up a few times and seemed very confused as to where he was. But after that, he has been doing so great! Cross your fingers that he continues that :). He has also been getting better at holding his head up, however he is not a huge fan of tummy time. He doesn't mind it for about five minutes, but after that he likes to let us know he's done :). He has been talking and interacting a lot more as well. He has become very vocal, and usually when he sees us smiling at him he will automatically smile back. It makes mommy and daddy very happy :).

To add to all of this, Jayden had his two month appointment this past week (even though he's already 2 and half months old), and got his first set of shots! Thankfully, Stephen was able to come with us to help in case I got a little emotional. Jayden was such a trooper, though! He only screamed for a minute and then was totally fine. Plus, we got all of his new measurements. He weighs 13 lbs 14 oz putting him in the 92 percentile for weight, 25 inches long and in the 95 percentile for length, and his head is 16 inches around and in the 60 percentile (my big baby boy with the little head :).  I think that's about it for now. We are loving life with our little man and can't wait for new things to come!

Week In Texas!

When Jayden was blessed last month, not all of my family was able to make it to Utah, so they invited Jayden and I to come to Texas for their spring break! It was quite the big adventure for us. It was Jayden's first plane ride and my first time flying with a baby, so I was a little nervous (maybe more than a little). But he did fantastic! The flight down to Texas was five hours long because we stopped in a couple places and didn't get off the plane. The flight back was only supposed to take two and half hours, but there were a bunch of big storms in Dallas that night so we sat on the plane waiting to take off for almost three hours. I was so proud of my little guy for handling it so well. And thankfully we sat by really nice people who held him and played with him to give me a break :)
Besides all of that, we had such a blast with the family! Jayden got to meet a lot of new people, and he loved the attention. We went to Sea World for a couple of days, and he had never spent so much time outside and in the sun. I'm not sure if he was a huge fan of the heat and humidity, but he slept really well in the stroller, and we got some super cute pictures of him with his cousins! And while he slept, I got to enjoy feeding the dolphins, a couple roller coasters, and some awesome shows.

8 weeks old!!!

So a lot of time has passed; sorry to our loyal fans! The blog is still a new experience for us but we set some time aside tonight to catch up. So much has been going on so I hope we cover it all.

Since our last post, Stephen's mom came out for a week to better help us adjust to life with a new member of the family. It was a blast having her for a week, and she was a ready babysitter to allow us to get things done. At the end of her trip, we were also joined by the rest of Stephen's family and many of Steph's as well for Jayden's baby blessing on the 19th. We were grateful to all those who were able to attend and we had so much fun.

Jayden is doing very well. In fact, we are blessed to have the best baby boy in the world and we just love him so much. Jayden was sick a couple of weeks ago so Stephanie took him into the doctor. Although he hides it well, Jayden is now over 12 lbs (and this was two weeks ago) and in the 95th percentile for his age. We are quite proud of him.

Another achievement that we sincerely hope sticks is that he will continue to sleep through the night. Yes, for three nights in a row now Jayden has gone down around 11 and slept in until 6, giving us an almost completely undisturbed sleep cycle. He will at times fuss in the middle of the night but when given the binky he will calm back down, giving his mommy and daddy some much-appreciated sleep. Keep it up kid!

One final thing to mention is something that always gives us laughs. Recently we have discovered that Jayden gets a mild surprise every time we pull his carseat cover up beside his head to pick him up. He'll be quite calm one moment but as soon as we pull the cover up his eyes get really big and he looks very apprehensive. We think that it might be the darker light that gives him the spooks but his face is so comical. Yes, we do laugh at our kid, but only because we love him so much.

And now, for the moment you've been enduring towards: pics and videos!
